General health check

doctor Adelaide HillsA general medical check-up, a comprehensive health evaluation or simply a routine doctor visit is an integral part of preventive healthcare. These regular exams help your doctor identify diseases early when they are easier to treat. They also place people at high risk for disease and advise them on lifestyle and other measures to reduce their risk.

Paediatrics is a discipline that concentrates on the health of children up to age 18. It provides all-round care to children from birth to adulthood and addresses physical and mental health concerns.

We welcome all children and babies to our Stirling Central Clinic in the Adelaide Hills. We are an Australian-owned and operated practice privately billed, except for children up to 12 who are bulk-billed. Our GPs are all experienced in antenatal care, postnatal care and women’s health issues, including family planning. We can also assist with breastfeeding, unsettled infants, and sleep difficulties.

Immunisations

Immunisation is the safest way to protect your child from serious diseases. Vaccines use inactive or weakened viruses to make your child’s body create specific antibodies to fight the disease. Vaccines work so well that some illnesses, like polio and smallpox, have disappeared due to immunisation.

Medicare funds vaccinations, and your child’s vaccination history is recorded on the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR). You can check your child’s AIR online or by phone.

We also offer specialist vaccination services for children with severe needle phobia or trauma and those with complex health conditions. This service uses sedation and is administered by our paediatric anaesthetist. These appointments are booked via your GP. We ask that you book well in advance.

Allergies

Allergies are overreactions of your child’s immune system. Airborne allergens, certain foods, insect stings, medications and latex usually cause them. They can make asthma, hay fever and eczema worse.

Our allergy specialists offer food, drug and insect allergy testing and treatment. They’ll help your child avoid their triggers and provide personalised advice to help them manage their allergies.

We teach your child to recognise signs of a severe allergic reaction called anaphylaxis. It can include difficulty breathing, a tingling mouth or throat, stomach pain and fainting. It’s essential to seek urgent medical attention if this happens.

We offer allergy testing using skin prick tests where a small amount of the suspected allergen is dropped on the back or arm, and your child’s body reacts to it. The area becomes red and swollen, and we record the results. It is the only reliable way to diagnose allergies.

Growth and development

During childhood, children grow physically, emotionally and socially. This growth is influenced by genetics, nutrition and environmental factors. All children develop at different rates. It is recognised in children’s milestones, such as taking their first steps or smiling for the first time. For more kids doctor Adelaide Hills, check this out.

We offer rapid access appointments for children who have been referred by their GP or come to the clinic without one. These are not Medicare rebateable. We also provide behavioural paediatric assessments, Autism Spectrum Disorder assessment and ADHD assessment.
